About Hard Water

What is hard water?

Hard water is water that contains naturally high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium. While not harmful to your health, it can interfere with your skin and hair's natural balance, and affect the overall feel and flow of your water.

How does it affect my hair and skin?

Hard water can strip away your skin and scalp’s natural oils, leaving you with dryness, irritation, and buildup. Over time, it may cause your hair to feel dull, coarse, or heavy — and your skin to lose its glow. It can also leave behind chalky residue on shower surfaces, disrupting both your body and your space.

How does Ngilla Flow help?

Ngilla Flow’s Vitamin C-infused shower filter works to neutralise chlorine, reduce mineral content, and soften your water. The result? Skin that feels nourished, hair that feels light and replenished, and a shower that supports your wellness — not works against it.

Our Shower Filter

What’s in the Ngilla Flow filter?

Each filter contains multiple layers that target chlorine, heavy metals, and impurities commonly found in Australian water:

Antiscalant – prevents limescale buildup on shower glass, tiles, and fittings

KDF-55 filter media – reduces chlorine, heavy metals, and bacteria

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) – neutralises chlorine for hydrated skin and shiny hair

Tourmaline ceramic balls – softens water for a smoother feel on skin

Calcium sulfite – effective chlorine reduction across a wide temperature range

Alkaline ceramic balls – balances pH for gentler water

Far infrared ceramic balls – energises water molecules for better absorption

Activated alumina – reduces fluoride, arsenic, and other impurities

Modified PFAS removal enhanced activated carbon – helps reduce PFAS (“forever chemicals”) and organic contaminants

When should I replace the cartridge?

We recommend replacing the cartridge every 3 to 6 months, depending on your water quality and how often it's used. For a single-person household, replacement is typically needed around every 5 months. In a two-person home, every 4 months is ideal, and for households with three or more people — or higher daily usage — we suggest changing it every 3 months. If your home has particularly hard water, you may need to replace the cartridge more frequently to maintain optimal results.

Installation & Maintenance

Will it fit my shower?

Yes — the Ngilla Flow filter is designed to fit standard 1/2 inch (1/2" BSP) threaded shower arms, which is the universal size used in most Australian homes. It connects easily between your existing shower head and the wall-mounted shower arm, with no tools or plumbing experience required.

If your setup uses a non-standard fitting or a handheld shower system, an adaptor may be needed — but for most fixed or rain-style shower heads, installation is quick, seamless, and straightforward.

How do I dispose of the used filter cartridge?

Carefully pierce through the mesh lining, compost the natural minerals, and recycle the casing where possible. Please refer to your local council's guidelines for correct disposal.
